the epstein (UK)

Americana/altcountry/rock (5 piece band or trio)

" There has not been a better band to come out of England this year, the Epstein play in another league - in a vast, desert like land of the soul." sais Rollingstone Magazine, after the release of the Epstein's first album ' Last of the Charanguistas' in 2008.

Those who love the sound of Calexico or Mumford & Sons, the harmonies of Crosby Stills & Nash and the Decemberists (but also the better folky ballads and incredibly good guitarwork) will simply LOVE the Epstein!

It's no lie that  this 5 piece Alt-country folkrockband is special; 6 months after Olly Wills and Jon Berry formed a band (2007) and named it  'The Epstein' they were already invited to play the Glastonbury festival as ' Best emerging talent', without a single cd in the shops or charts!
Finally when their debut cd arrived in january 2008, BBC DJ Huw Stephens kindly made 'Last of the Charanguistas' his Album of the week on the Radio 1 introducing show and they were asked back for Glastonburry 2008.
This could have been the beginning of a speed train musical career but the Epstein chose to stay indepedent in the UK and finally signed with a very small German label to release ' Last of the Charanguistas' in the rest of Europe.

In spring 2009 they crossed the pond to the Netherlands and played al kinds of places (including record stores) to promote the album independently. One of these promo-gigs was seen by the programmer of the big Rhythm & Bluesnight in the Oosterpoort in Groningen (Netherlands) and he immediatly booked them for a set on the festival without a single doubt. And so it happened that in May 2009 The Epstein was one of the only unknown bands on this big festival and made many new fans and got lots of national radioplay, (including live sessions) especially in the Netherlands and Germany.

In 2010 they decided to take it slow to build a more steady base for the future and worked on writing and recording a new album and rehearsels with new drummer Paul Denley and fresh keyboardplayer Seb Reynolds. On February 28 2011 the Epstein released an in between EP called 'I held you once', with 3 songs mixed in Los Angeles by Hugo Nicolson, van Radiohead’s cd in In Rainbows. Also they released there first single and videoclip ' I held you once'.
Summer 2011 they travelled trough the UK and Europe mainland for some great festivals and all the fans were happy to see them back again.

In spring 2012 the Epstein will release their first single in the Benelux and come back to do some festivals, also in summer. The 2nd full cd release of the Epstein is to be expected autumn 2012 and will get a full cd tour trough a label.
